TY students enjoy Print Industry experience
Thu Apr 13, 2017
Recently Anglo Printers hosted Eoin Brereton Hurley and Paul McDonough for a weeks Work Experience. They are both Transition Year students from Coláiste na hInse in Bettystown, Co Meath, and it is necessary for them to do work experience placements as part of their curriculum.
It has given them a wonderful opportunity to get some practical experience and gain an insight into the printing industry, and how School Yearbooks, Magazines & other publications are published.
They completed their placement in both the Prepress/Graphic Design Department and in our Digital Printing Hub. Eoin and Paul are members of the School Yearbook team and during the week they were provided with guidance on how to design and layout their School Yearbook.
Why were you interested in doing your work experience at Anglo Printers? 'I wanted to learn the base knowledge of the InDesign Software Programme to help with the yearbook as I like to be the designer behind the team who creates articles. I always wanted to put my own point of view and ideas on articles in terms of design, layout and effects. I would like to study engineering, music or Computing in College.' - Eoin Brereton Hurley
What attracted you to the Graphic Design/Printing industry? 'I was interested in learning Graphic Design, because we are printing the school yearbook. I wanted to find out what went into a design project for a publication. I love drawing and working with computers, and like designing & deciding how things are going to look. In College I would like to study Computer science, Graphic Design or Web Design.' - Paul McDonough
What new skills did you learn this week? We learnt a lot about the mechanics and tools of the InDesign Software Programme from the Graphic Design Team. These skills are invaluable in helping us to design the Coláiste na hInse School Yearbook. We were shown the process of how to make prints aligned and also how to prepare print to be cut during our work experience in the Digital Hub.
We are delighted that Paul and Eoin enjoyed their work experience in Anglo Printers and wish them every success in their education and future careers.«back
