Employee in the Spotlight - Andy Byrne
Fri Jun 9, 2017

Andy began his career with Anglo Printers 24 years ago. He joined on work experience in the paste-up/composition department from a FAS course he was on in the early nineties.

What is your role at Anglo Printers and what does it involve?

Prepress Manager, I’m responsible for receiving artwork and files from our sales reps and customers and processing them for the printing presses.

How has the company changed since?

It has changed a hell of a lot. When I started the factory was basically a large shed, about a third of the size it is now. It has undergone huge changes in the years I’ve been here. Massive advances in technology have also completely changed the way the prepress department operates now.

What do you like most about Anglo Printers?

It is great getting to work with people I’d consider friends rather than colleagues. The lack of a commute is a bonus, I only live 5 minutes away!!

What is your proudest moment at Anglo Printers?

I guess being in one company for 24 years is something to be proud of, I’m like the Ryan Giggs of the printing world. My least proudest is probably my most memorable but that’s a story for another time…..

Tell us about your family?

I’m married to Rhona, who’s a midwife in the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. We have 2 boys; Cian who is 16 and sitting his Junior cert at the moment, and Darragh who’s 11 in September.

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

My wife and 2 kids, although they mightn’t like being called things…Apart from that, probably my hiking boots, a lighter and a knife (I’ve watched plenty of Bear Grylls so I’d be grand)

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love hiking and travelling, and vegging in front of the tv watching football. I also enjoy cooking, and having nice food and wine with the missus.

What is the one thing, you cant live without?

My wife….. (and nice food and wine..)

What would be the title of your autobiography?

“How will I output this?”

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be?

Eric Cantona

Favourite musician, band, book and movie?

I don’t really have a favourite musician or book, I like most music that involves people actually playing instruments and writing songs, rather than manufactured pop. I listen to anything from Frank Sinatra to U2 to the Kings of Leon to Artic Monkeys and all sorts in between.

I enjoy reading any good fiction thriller. Was always a bit of the Lord of the Rings fan too. Favourite movie is probably Leon.
