Drogheda Traditional Music Weekend is now in its 21st year and celebrates Irish music, song and dance in historic Drogheda town this weekend, It’s the place to be and promises lots of lively traditional music sessions and a variety of Concerts and Workshops.
Musicians, singers and dancers from all over the world will transcend on Drogheda this weekend to celebrate the wonderful traditions of Irish music, song and dance.
The tranquil surroundings of the Gary Kelly Centre on George’s Street, is the setting for an intimate performance by Louth based band Kern at 1pm on Friday.
The headline concert of the 2017 Drogheda Traditional Festival takes place on Friday November 25th at 8pm in Droichead Arts Centre, Stockwell St. It features Roscommon band Gatehouse, who will be joined by Donegal traditional singer Rita Gallagher and supported by local band The Savage Family.
On Saturday Trad in the tower takes place in the unique location of Millmount Tower featuring music group Navá, Iranian born brothers Shahab and Shayan Coohe, sean-nós singer Roisin El Safty and sean-nós dancer Edwina Guckian.
On Sunday join the Drogheda Songtrail, a celebration of singers and songs from the regions, recorded by local singers Ruth Campbell and Kevin Branigan. Starting at Simcox lane, off Trinity Street at 1pm.
The weekend is filled with schools’ concerts, songtrails, music and singing classes, intimate concert performances and many informal music and singing sessions.
Don’t miss these events and many more during this memorable weekend of traditional music, song and dance. This weekend is a great opportunity to explore and connect with our traditional music heritage. It will give you a taste of what is to come when Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place in Drogheda in August 2018.
